Overview

The Design, Branding and Visual Identity Supervisor advances the city's One Dallas vision and creates and protects the City’s brand assets to facilitate effective, engaging visual communication and content marketing through graphics and other images and assets informing Dallas residents, news media and other stakeholders about city policies, operations, programs, services, and news. The supervisor leads a team of three direct reports including graphic designers and a digital content specialist.

Essential Functions

1 With limited supervision, oversees the effective creation and dissemination of brand assets, visual information, graphic designs and digital content throughout the City and across its broadcast, digital, and social channels; ensures information is timely, accurate and engaging while effectively upholding the City's image.

2 Plans and implements policies and procedures regarding productivity, capability, equipment and control in design to ensure maximum utilization of services rendered.

3 Manages, supervises, and assists staff in providing artistic and technical services to a large and diverse user group to ensure compliance with legal requirements; designs and facilitates publications, signage, exhibitions, collateral, and content raising awareness and increasing engagement among residents for City services and new programs.

4 Plans, prepares and monitors annual budget of the Graphics Section to ensure that the budgetary needs of the Section are met.

5 With procurement specialists, engages professionally with contractors, negotiating with outside vendors such as printers, photographers, illustrators, agencies and media outlets when needed to get the best price for services provided.

6 Prepares, maintains, and organizes key information on persons, projects, policies, and activities for assigned departments to timely furnish information such as presentations and reports upon request.

7 Reviews, updates and approves assets for use in public presentations by the City Manager’s Office and City departments and creates creative assets as needed upon request: quality checks creative to ensure its accuracy and brand compliance.

8 Coordinates, designs, and prepares advertisements for departments City-wide in major market, multicultural and niche print and digital media outlets, including special information material presented at public meetings to inform the public about public hearings or city services.

9 Prepares presentation templates and creative assets promoting City programs and services for Chiefs, Directors, and their staff to communicate with the public about the city's budget and other services and programs and provides other data visualization and creative elements needed for use by elected and appointed officials.

10 Performs other work as needed or assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

1 Knowledge of ethical management and supervisory principles, best practices, and current techniques for brand management, content marketing, graphic design, and public relations.

2 Knowledge of computer graphic design including skillful use of Adobe, Microsoft, and social media tools.

3 Knowledge of artwork processes, display set-ups, graphic art, and related artistic techniques.

4 Excellent communication skills including knowledge of the City’s brand standards and style as well as oral and written communication.

5 Ability to maintain harmonious relationships with executives, officials, volunteers, employees, and the public.

6 Ability to organize and coordinate the work of subordinates.

7 Knowledge of social media, news media, and related platforms.

8 Knowledge of customer service techniques to resolve problems and issues.

9 Establishing and maintaining strong working relationships.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE:

  • Eight (8) years’ experience in art direction, graphic design, brand management, content marketing, public relations, illustration or related field

AND

  • One (1) supervisory/management responsibilities

EQUIVALENCES:

  • Associate degree in any field plus six (6) years of the required experience including one (1) year supervisory/management responsibilities will meet the education and experience requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree in a non-specified field including six (6) years of the required experience including one (1) year supervisory/management responsibilities will meet the education and experience requirements.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a specified field plus four (4) years including one (1) year of the stated supervisory/management responsibilities will meet the education and experience requirements.
  • Master's degree (or higher) in a specified field plus two (2) years of the required experience including one (1) year supervisory/management responsibilities will meet the education and experience requirements.

LICENSE:

  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record (within probationary period)

Salary Range

 

$64,251.20 - $79,809.60
